Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before. With metal braces, you get to choose the color of your elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile.
Choose the right color for your smile.
There are several things to think about when choosing the right color for your new braces. We have some suggestions for things you might want to consider when picking the color of your bands:
Pick a color that will complement your eyes.
Green Eyes – Shades of purple and green add depth to green eyes.
Blue Eyes – Blue, pink, and violet complement blue eyes.
Brown Eyes – If you have brown eyes, just about any shade in the color wheel will work –especially blue, green, or grey will highlight your eyes.
Hazel Eyes – A unique aspect about hazel eyes is that you can dictate their color by the shades you choose. For example, forest green and dark purple bring out the green in hazel eyes. Shades of blue and grey will highlight your blue undertones.
Pick a color that makes your teeth look whiter.
If your teeth are very yellow, choose a darker shade of bands. Darker shades will make your teeth look whiter. If your teeth are pinker, choose a lighter shade.
Match your color with your wardrobe.
You could also match your color choice with your clothing choices. To play it safe, you can choose a neutral color that closely matches your teeth so that it can go with any outfit or occasion.
Pick your favorite color.
Pick a color that you love! Or choose more than one color or make them multi-colored!
Dress up in braces for holidays, school play, or other special events.
You can always pick a color for a holiday such as Halloween, Christmas, or the New Year. Or maybe you want your braces to match a costume for a school play. There are so many colors to choose from – “Your imagination is the beginning of creation” (George Bernard Shaw).
Pick your favorite sports team’s color.
If you’re a sports fan, you can pick your favorite team’s colors. Maybe you are a fan of the Hornets (purple, teal, and grey) or the Panthers (black, blue, silver, and white), or the Hurricanes (black, red, grey, and white). If you’re a fan of them all, you could change your colors and wear each team’s color at different times of the year.
When you choose which color you want, think about how it will look when you are smiling. Will you feel more confident? Or will it make you feel self-conscious? If you are not sure what color to pick, our team here at Cobb Orthodontics is here to help you.
Whatever color you pick, there is no right or wrong color. And the good news is, whatever band color you choose, you can always change it when you are at your next visit when we tighten your wires. So, no worries!
Have fun picking your colors.
